Rev. Dr. Kevin L. Guynn
Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church
Kevin is the third of four children of Richard and Bobbie Guynn. Kevin’s family moved from western Kentucky to Akron, Ohio, just before Kevin was born. Much of Kevin’s early childhood was spent in Cuyahoga Falls, and later Tallmadge. It was here, in junior high band, that Kevin met his future wife: Raye. Raye played clarinet and Kevin played saxophone. Having been, “high school sweethearts,” the two married on December 17, 1977. Kevin and Raye have three children: Sara, married to Andy; Emily, married to Luke, and Michael, whom recently graduated from Ohio State University and is now working at Rovisys in Aurora. About five years ago, Kevin and Raye became grandparents to Maerin.
Kevin has two degrees from Kent State University. Later he attended John Carroll University so he could become an educational administrator. In 2002, Kevin earned his doctorate degree at Cleveland State University. He completed his pastoral formation classes at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.
Kevin began his teaching career at North Canton’s Hoover High School. He was band director at Willoughby South High School . From there Kevin moved into educational administration. He served as an administrator in Chardon, Mentor, and Fairport Harbor. While the students, staff, and parents of Fairport made it a great place to work, the call to ministry was extremely strong; thus he resigned from Fairport and accepted the call as Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Mentor. Kevin worked alongside Pastor Ronald Le Pere, who served Faith as Pastor for over 24 years. Pastor Le Pere fully retired in January, 2015. Kevin brings with him an interest in family and marriage ministries as well as the understanding we need to address the needs of the aging members of the congregation. He enjoys serving God here in Mentor, and the surrounding communities.
